PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed American Pacific Borates is hunting for a partner to extract lithium from its Fort Cady boron project, in Southern California.

The company told shareholders on Monday that while the boron specialities business unit remained the company’s primary focus, the improving lithium economics and the emerging direct lithium extraction technologies have compelled American Pacific to consider partner options for potential lithium by-product production at Fort Cady.

Australian Pacific has since 2018 been weighing its options to exploit the potential by-product credit lithium upside at Fort Cady, which is estimated to equate to some 214 000 t of lithium carbonate equivalent.

The proposed partnering strategy will be jointly led by the US Advisory Board, given its deep lithium networks, American Pacific told shareholders.
