Project Description
A preliminary economic assessment (PEA) on the Albany project has indicated that the Albany project has excellent potential to be a low-cost source of high-purity graphite without having to use dangerous and environmentally harmful hydrofluoric acid or costly thermal upgrading.

The PEA proposes a 3 000 t/d openpit mine and process plant that will produce 30 000 t/y of high-purity (>99.9%) graphite over a 22-year mine life. It further proposes building an access road, a power and gas line to the property from near the Trans Canada Highway. 

Planned infrastructure and facilities at the project site include a tailings management facility and handling facilities, as well as crushers and secondary buildings, including offices and workshops.

The PEA is based on mineral resources that are not mineral reserves and have not demonstrated economic viability; thus, there is no certainty that the results of this PEA will be realised.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
The project has a pretax net present value, at a 10% discount rate, of $614.68-million and an internal rate of return of 27%, with a payback of 3.7 years.

The initial capital cost of the project has been estimated at $411.47-million.
