Norway-headquartered Akobo Minerals has assured that its operations in Ethiopia remain unimpacted by the declared State of Emergency on November 2.

In fact, the company reports it has intersected a 10 m section of visible gold at the Segele project, while work also continues to progress at the Joru project.

The company is conducting a social baseline study at Segele, as well as a cost assessment and determining processing plant requirements – Akobo is engaging geotechnical consultants and mine waste specialists as well.

The company explains that a similar State of Emergency was in place in the country in 2016 and 2018, but Akobo continued with its exploration activities successfully through both periods.

The latest State of Emergency relates to terrorist activity being experienced in the northern region of Tigray in the country, about 250 km from the capital city Addis Ababa. The State of Emergency allows for roadblocks to be established, transport services to be disrupted, curfews to be imposed and for the military to take over in certain areas.
