Accounting, finance, human resources and payroll technology company Sage has rolled out its AI solutions across South Africa, select pan-African markets, and the Middle East.

Including intelligent tools such as Sage Copilot, a generative-AI assistant, and a suite of specialised AI agents - Sage Ai is designed to reduce administrative burdens, strengthen compliance and unlock productivity through automation.

The company asserts that administrative and compliance demands are increasing, regulatory complexity is slowing decision-making, and cashflow volatility remains a persistent risk to growth and resilience in small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) across Africa and the Middle East. In addition, skills shortages are impacting payroll, tax and reporting responsibilities. 

According to research conducted by Sage, 73% of South African SMBs have invested in AI, yet only 47% are using it to drive revenue growth, with concerns around privacy, security and compliance among the top factors shaping AI adoption.

• Assurance agent: flags unusual journal entries in real time 
• Salary variance detection agent: detects payroll anomalies
• Sale intelligence agent: real‑time alerts to protect revenue 
• Payslip insights agent: provides faster answers from payslip data
• AP agent: accurate automation of vendor invoice processing
• Time agent: builds timesheet entries based on calendar, email, and app activity
