Global services firm Aecom has appointed Carlos Poñe as its Africa CE, effective August 1.

Poñe, who would be based in Johannesburg, said he shared the same values and passion for Africa as Aecom and looked forward to implementing the company’s strategy and vision for the region, helping to take the business to a leading position in the continent.

He is currently ABB’s country MD in the United Arab Emirates and has held a number of positions within ABB, including Southern Africa CEO and sub-Saharan Africa regional manager.

“The Africa region plays an increasingly important part of our business in Aecom. More and more global clients are exploring opportunities in the region and the emerging and developed economies across Africa provide great opportunities for the company to positively impact lives and transform communities.

“[Poñe’s] record of creating strong, sustainable and diverse teams across the continent will help take our business to the next level of success,” Aecom Europe, Middle East, Africa and India CE Steve Morris said.
