Woolworths

Woolworths is a South African retail group operating primarily in the fashion, food and homeware sectors. The company is headquartered in Cape Town and trades on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange as part of Woolworths Holdings. Woolworths operates a chain of stores across South Africa and other African countries, as well as in Australia and New Zealand through its subsidiary brands. The group's core South African business focuses on premium-quality clothing, food and general merchandise, targeting middle- to upper-income consumers. Woolworths also owns the David Jones department store chain in Australia and the Country Road Group. The company employs tens of thousands of people across its operations and generates billions of rand in annual revenue. Woolworths has built a reputation for quality, sustainability and ethical sourcing, with initiatives in responsible farming and environmental stewardship. The group competes with other major South African retailers in a challenging consumer environment. Woolworths was founded in 1931 and has grown to become one of South Africa's most recognised retail brands.
