Sweden

Sweden is a Nordic country located in northern Europe, occupying the eastern portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula. The capital and largest city is Stockholm. Sweden has a population of about ten-million people and operates as a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy. The country maintains a highly developed mixed economy characterised by advanced manufacturing, technology, engineering and natural resource sectors. Key industries include automotive production, telecommunications equipment, pharmaceuticals, forestry products, iron ore mining and steel manufacturing. Sweden is known for its significant exports of machinery, motor vehicles, paper products, iron and steel. The currency is the Swedish krona. Sweden is a member of the European Union, having joined in 1995, but has retained its own currency rather than adopting the euro. The country is also a member of the United Nations, the Nordic Council and various international economic and development organisations. Sweden has a long tradition of international development cooperation and maintains active diplomatic and trade relations across Africa, including partnerships in water, energy and infrastructure sectors. The Swedish economy is export-oriented, with a strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability and advanced technology. Sweden's governance model and social policies have made it a reference point in discussions of economic development and public service delivery.
