Sandfire Resources

Sandfire Resources is an Australian copper mining and exploration company headquartered in Perth, Western Australia. The company operates copper mines and development projects across multiple continents, with a focus on building a diversified portfolio of copper assets. Sandfire's flagship operations include the Motheo copper mine in Botswana's Kalahari Copper Belt and the MATSA copper-zinc-lead mining complex in Spain's Iberian Pyrite Belt. The company also holds the Black Butte copper project in the United States and exploration interests including the Kalkaroo copper-gold project in South Australia through its shareholding in Havilah Resources. Sandfire is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange and has positioned itself as a mid-tier copper producer with operations spanning Africa, Europe and North America. The company's strategy centres on copper as a critical metal for the global energy transition and electrification. Sandfire employs several hundred people across its operations and corporate offices. The company was founded in the early 2000s and initially developed the DeGrussa copper-gold mine in Western Australia, which operated until 2022, before expanding internationally through acquisitions and greenfield developments.
