Modikwa

Modikwa is a platinum-group metals mine situated in South Africa's Limpopo province, within the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex. The operation extracts PGM-bearing ore from the Merensky Reef and UG2 chromitite seams, which are rich in platinum, palladium, rhodium and associated metals. Modikwa is structured as a joint venture, with ownership shared between major mining companies active in the South African PGM sector. The mine employs conventional underground mining methods and operates concentrating facilities to produce PGM concentrate for further refining. Modikwa's production contributes to global supply chains for catalytic converters, fuel cells and other applications that rely on platinum-group metals. The operation is located near other significant PGM mines, including Mogalakwena, Mototolo and Kroondal, forming part of a cluster of mining activity in the region. Modikwa has been in production since the early 2000s and remains an important contributor to South Africa's PGM output. The mine is a key employer in Limpopo and supports local economic development through procurement and community programmes.
