Louisiana

Louisiana is a state in the southern United States, with its capital at Baton Rouge. The state sits on the Gulf of Mexico coast and is a major hub for the US energy industry, particularly oil and gas production, refining and liquefied natural gas export. Louisiana's economy is heavily influenced by its extensive petrochemical corridor along the Mississippi River, which hosts numerous refineries, chemical plants and LNG terminals. The state is home to the Port of South Louisiana, one of the largest ports in the world by tonnage, and the Port of New Orleans, both critical for energy exports and international trade. Louisiana's offshore waters in the Gulf of Mexico contain significant oil and gas reserves, making it a key contributor to US domestic energy production. The state also benefits from onshore production, pipeline infrastructure and storage facilities that connect Gulf Coast operations to national and international markets. Louisiana's energy sector supports a substantial portion of its workforce and state revenue, positioning it as a strategic asset in US energy security. The state was admitted to the Union in 1812 and has a distinctive cultural heritage shaped by French, Spanish, African and Native American influences.
