Kenya

Kenya is a country in East Africa bordered by Somalia to the east, Ethiopia to the north, South Sudan to the northwest, Uganda to the west, Tanzania to the south and the Indian Ocean to the southeast. The capital is Nairobi, which serves as the country's principal commercial and financial hub. With a population of approximately 54-million people, Kenya is one of the most populous nations in East Africa and operates as a presidential representative democratic republic. The economy is the largest in the East African Community and is driven by agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, financial services and technology, with tea, coffee and horticultural products among its leading exports. The Kenyan shilling is the national currency. Kenya is a member of the African Union, the East African Community, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa and the United Nations. The country gained independence from British colonial rule in 1963 and has since developed into a regional diplomatic and economic centre, hosting numerous international organisations and serving as a gateway for trade and investment in East Africa.
