Jansen

Jansen is a large-scale potash mining project located in Saskatchewan, Canada, approximately 140 kilometres east of Saskatoon. The facility is owned and being developed by BHP, which acquired full ownership after purchasing the remaining stake from its joint venture partners. Jansen sits on one of the world's largest and highest-grade potash resources, with the orebody extending over a vast area of the Prairie Evaporite formation. The project is designed to be developed in stages, with the first stage targeting an initial production capacity of approximately 4.35-million tonnes of potash a year, with potential to expand to more than 16-million tonnes annually in subsequent phases. Potash produced at Jansen will be used primarily as a key ingredient in fertilisers for global agricultural markets. The project represents one of the largest mining investments in Canadian history, with capital expenditure running into the billions of dollars. Construction of the first stage includes shaft sinking, underground development, processing facilities and surface infrastructure. Jansen is strategically significant as global demand for potash is expected to grow with increasing food production requirements and population growth. The project was initially developed by Teck before BHP acquired it and committed to advancing construction.
