Golden Triangle

The Golden Triangle is a mineral-rich region in northwestern British Columbia, Canada, known for its significant gold, silver and copper deposits. The area is bounded roughly by the towns of Stewart, Dease Lake and the Alaska Panhandle, covering approximately 18 000 square kilometres of rugged mountainous terrain. The region has been a focus of mining activity for over a century, with numerous past-producing mines and active exploration projects. Major deposits in the Golden Triangle include the KSM project, Brucejack, Red Chris and Galore Creek, which collectively represent billions of dollars in mineral resources. The area's geology is characterised by volcanic and sedimentary rock formations that host high-grade precious and base metal mineralisation. Access to the Golden Triangle is challenging due to its remote location, steep topography and harsh weather conditions, which have historically limited development. The region overlaps with the traditional territories of several Indigenous nations, including the Tahltan, Nisga'a and Tsetsaut Skii km Lax Ha, whose rights and interests are central to modern resource development. Mining activity in the Golden Triangle has increased in recent decades as commodity prices and exploration technology have improved project economics. The region remains one of Canada's most prospective mining districts and continues to attract significant exploration investment from junior and major mining companies.
