Cape Town International Airport

Cape Town International Airport is a major international airport serving Cape Town and the Western Cape province of South Africa. The facility is located approximately 20 kilometres east of the city centre in the suburb of Matroosfontein. It is operated by Airports Company South Africa (Acsa), the state-owned enterprise responsible for managing South Africa's principal airports. Cape Town International is the second-busiest airport in South Africa by passenger traffic, after OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, and serves as a key gateway for both domestic and international travellers. The airport handles millions of passengers annually, with significant volumes of tourist traffic drawn to the Western Cape's attractions, wine regions and coastal destinations. It features two terminals and a single runway, with facilities supporting a wide range of airlines operating routes across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The airport plays a vital economic role in the region, supporting tourism, trade and employment. Cape Town International has undergone several expansions and upgrades to accommodate growing passenger numbers and improve operational capacity. The facility was originally established in the 1950s and has since developed into one of Africa's leading airports.
