Bolivia

Bolivia is a landlocked country in central South America. The constitutional capital is Sucre, while La Paz serves as the seat of government and is the administrative capital. With a population of about 12-million, Bolivia has a mixed economy heavily dependent on natural resource extraction, particularly mining and hydrocarbons. The country is one of the world's leading producers of lithium, tin, silver and zinc, and holds significant reserves of natural gas. Key export commodities include minerals, natural gas, soybeans and coca products. The currency is the boliviano. Bolivia operates as a unitary presidential republic and is a member of the Union of South American Nations, the Andean Community and the Organization of American States. The mining sector has historically been central to Bolivia's economy, though the industry faces challenges related to infrastructure, regulatory uncertainty and community relations. Bolivia's vast lithium deposits in the Uyuni salt flats have attracted international interest as demand for battery metals grows. The country gained independence from Spain in 1825 and is named after Simón Bolívar, the Venezuelan leader who played a key role in Latin American liberation.
