Blanket Mine

Blanket Mine is a gold mine located in the Gwanda district of southern Zimbabwe, approximately 500 km south of Harare. The mine is operated by Caledonia Mining Corporation, a Canadian-listed company that holds a majority stake in the asset through its subsidiary Blanket Mine (Private) Limited. Blanket Mine is one of Zimbabwe's largest and longest-operating gold producers, with a history dating back to the early twentieth century. The operation comprises both underground and surface mining activities, with ore processed through a conventional carbon-in-leach plant. The mine has undergone significant expansion and modernisation in recent years, including shaft deepening and infrastructure upgrades to extend its life of mine and increase production capacity. Annual gold output typically ranges in the tens of thousands of ounces, making it a strategically important asset for both Caledonia Mining and Zimbabwe's mining sector. The mine employs several hundred workers and contributes substantially to the local economy in Gwanda. Blanket Mine's ore reserves and resources are concentrated in a series of quartz reefs within the greenstone belt geology characteristic of the region. The operation has benefited from ongoing investment in exploration, ventilation systems and processing efficiency to maintain its position as a cornerstone gold producer in Zimbabwe.
