Australia

Australia is a country and continent located in the Southern Hemisphere, comprising the mainland, Tasmania and numerous smaller islands. The capital is Canberra, whilst Sydney and Melbourne are the largest cities. With a population of about 26-million, Australia has a highly developed mixed-market economy with a gross domestic product of more than $1.5-trillion, making it one of the wealthiest nations per capita globally. The economy is dominated by services, mining, agriculture and energy exports, with key commodities including iron-ore, coal, gold, lithium, natural gas and copper. Australia is the world's largest exporter of iron-ore and liquefied natural gas, and a leading producer of critical minerals essential for renewable energy and battery technologies. The currency is the Australian dollar. Australia operates as a federal parliamentary constitutional monarchy, with governance shared between the Commonwealth government and six states and two territories. The country is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations, the G20, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. Australia's resource sector has been central to its economic development since the nineteenth-century gold rushes, and mining remains a cornerstone of export revenue and employment, particularly in Western Australia and Queensland.
