TSX-listed miner First Quantum said on Monday that a worker at its Cobre Panama project had passed away and that a second worker was injured while constructing an electrical transmission line in the tailings management facility.

The second worker has been transferred to hospital.

The miner stated that relevant authorities have been advised and that an internal investigation into the accident was under way.

“First Quantum extends its deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased, and will work to provide all the necessary support for both employees' families and colleagues during this difficult time,” the company said.

Cobre Panama is a large openpit copper development project in Panama.
