JSE-listed Wesizwe Platinum has advised that the Bakubung Platinum Mine (BPM) remains closed owing to ongoing unprotected strike action since July 20.

The company says its management is engaging with relevant stakeholders to find an amicable solution and resolve the matter.

“BPM remains committed to addressing the concerns of employees, as well as the safeguarding of shareholder interests,” Wesizwe states.

BPM, located in the Bushveld Complex near Rustenburg, in North West, has been riddled with delays to its full construction and commissioning partly owing to technical faults and partly owing to bouts of unrest in the surrounding Ledig community.

The mine has been under development since mid-2011.

It is expected to produce 420 000 oz/y of platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold at steady-state production over a 30-year mine life.
