Two workers lose their lives at Newmont mine

Gold major Newmont has confirmed the passing on Tuesday of two of its workers at the Cerro Negro mine, in Argentina.

The deceased, both part of Newmont’s technical services team, lost their lives under circumstances currently under investigation.

Newmont said it had launched a full investigation into the incident and that relevant learnings would be embedded into its safety standards.

In response to the incident, the company has suspended mine activities at Cerro Negro.
