With a DC3 fixed-wing aircraft and range of airborne geophysical equipment, including its Squid magnetic gradiometer sensor, Johannesburg-based airborne geophysics technology provider Spectrem Air is well equipped to deliver integrated three-dimensional (3D) solutions for geological mapping; minerals exploration targeting, including oil and gas; and geohydrological and geo-engineering applications.

The company, which leases a hangar at Lanseria International Airport, collects high-resolution electromagnetic, magnetic and radiometric data concurrently, using its Spectrem Plus system. It also offers equipment design, the acquisition and processing of airborne data, the production of geophysical results and two-dimensional or 3D geological products for mineral exploration.

Established in 1985, Spectrem Air is owned by diversified miner Anglo American (75%) and diamond mining major De Beers (25%), and boasts an average yearly turnover of R52-million, yielded over the last few years, and fixed assets valued at R350-million.

The company, with a staff of 31, has secured an order book of R25-million for the rest of this year. Its latest contracts include large airborne geophysical surveys in Western Australia, which has seen a resurgence in exploration activity.

Spectrem Air an is ISO 9001-certified company and is International Airborne Geophysics Safety Association and Basic Aviation Risk Standard compliant.
