Space solutions manufacturer Abacus Space Solutions launched the first 3 m × 6 m high volume, South African built flat pack accommodation product in January 2013.

This product has been developed to address local mine site accommodation concerns, such as integration to tight timelines for accommodation needs, which adhere to quality, comfort and flexibility, Abacus Space Solutions MD Gavin Turner tells Mining Weekly.

There is a desperate need in the mining industry for suitable mine site accommodation and to improve the living conditions of mineworkers, he stresses.

“We believe that the EzeeSpace offering is destined to be the gold standard of mine site accommodation for the mining industry. This solution aims to meet the ever increasing needs of the workforce in the industry and those of contractors expected to be housed in suitable accommodation.”

Mine site accommodation should be a home away from home, Turner states, adding that, as part of the EzeeSpace offering, Abacus has also launched the EzeeCare brand, which offers quality on-site services. All services are linked to the unique requirements of the end-users and are contracted to outcome-based service level agreements.

The company offers hotel-style pricing, which includes the rental of the buildings and the required services with numerous benefits to clients. This includes enabling clients to concentrate on their core business, while Abacus cares for the company staff’s accommodation needs. It also limits the client’s need to invest in capital for noncore assets.

“We believe our offer will create a unique solution for many clients,” states Turner, adding that it was developed with the help of forming and shoring company in South Africa, FormScaff.

Abacus Space Solutions is a proud division of the Waco Africa company.

The company is in the process of presenting its accommodation solution to the mining industry and will showcase the product at its Jet Park offices this month, as a double storey office solution with deck area and veranda, with the signature external covered staircase.

The EzeeSpace units are robust, wider than any other similar product, with a rigid, stiffer floor. Insulation and quality finishes ensure quality space as safety is paramount. The unique internal drainage system ensures proper rainwater management and no leaks.

EzeeSpace offers the fastest factory-to- on-site space solutions, with quality local content, local factory support, no exchange rate risk and readily available spares.

Each individual unit is delivered totally self-contained and crane assembly time is less than two hours. “EzeeSpace is modular and allows increased flexibility, with up to three-storey capability.”

As mining companies’ camps need to change position or requirements, the housing can easily be relocated and reconfigured to meet new requirements,” Turner concludes.
“I believe that our product and total turnkey solution will create a sustainable solution to the client’s project life. By integrating numerous services and subcontractors, we take care of the complete organisation of life on site. “The same concept will be rolled out in our rental villages – we plan to build these in ‘hot spot’ areas where there are requirements for accommodation. This is the ideal solution for the contractor who requires accommodation on a temporary basis – the home away from home,” concludes EzeeCare business manager Karen Olivier.
