All of us at CAPRISA and the MRC in South Africa join the nation and the world in mourning the passing away of our great iconic leader.  We owe Madiba our very existence for making our country’s peaceful democracy possible. While he is no longer with us in his physical being, he is still very much with us in spirit – indeed, he lives in each of us as we toil each day to make the world a better place.

He has set us on the path of truth, the path of selflessness, and the path of freedom. His long walk was the first step towards our freedom – freedom from oppression, freedom from want and freedom from disease. We have so much more to do in fulfilling his dream. We will humbly try to continue following in his footsteps in the enduring quest for justice and freedom for all the peoples of the world.

Lala Ngoxolo Madiba!

Our Deepest Sympathies,

Professor Salim Abdool Karim
President: South African Medical Research Council
Director: CAPRISA

Professor Machaba Michael Sathekge
Chairperson of the Board: South African Medical Research Council
