Proudly South African is deeply saddened and mourns with the nation - and
millions of people across the world - following the passing away of
former President, Nelson Mandela, at his Houghton home late last night.

"It is a day of great sadness for us as we face our first day in a
post-Mandela South Africa with heavy hearts. Yet, as our flags fly at
half-mast, we pay tribute to a most extraordinary leader who taught us
and the world that love is stronger than hate - and that forgiveness can
overcome wrath," said Proudly South African CEO, Adv. Leslie Sedibe.

"Madiba will be remembered as one of the greatest statesmen of the 20th
Century who embodied compassion, forgiveness and a limitless love for
people. His extraordinary role as a global advocate for peace, an iconic
global leader and role model to the world will certainly never be
forgotten. A beacon of light and hope for the world has ceased to shine
this day and yet lives in our hearts," he added.

As South Africans wake up to the news of Madiba's passing, Proudly SA is
calling on the nation to honour the memory of the elder statesman by
living out his legacy and standing united as a nation.

“Madiba has been a father to our nation, an icon and a hero who never
wavered in his commitment to democracy, reconciliation and the fight
against racism. We celebrate an exceptional human being who embodied
humility, grace, courage, kindness and dignity - even in the face of
extreme adversity," said Adv. Sedibe.

"His life has truly been an inspiration to people of all races, tribes
and nations and we pay tribute to him for all he stood for – and for all
he did for us as South Africans during his lifetime. Madiba is the man
who embodied our country's long walk to freedom. It's  now time for us to
carry the baton and continue his legacy, with humanity at the core of
everything we do," concluded Adv. Sedibe.

Proudly SA wishes Madiba's family, friends and the nation comfort and
strength during this time of shared grief and mourning.
