PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior Prospect Resources has officially opened its pilot project at its Arcadia lithium project, in Zimbabwe.

The pilot plant includes a two-stage crushing plant and single dense media separator plant capable of producing technical grade petalite products, and could be repurposed to process the fines fraction and produce chemical grade petalite product.

First ore feed for the pilot plant came from the blasted section of the main pegmatite orebody, which Prospect said constituted more than 16% of the Arcadia total orebody, based on the 2.4-million-tonne-a-year pit development considered in the Arcadia definitive feasibility study.

“With the Arcadia pilot plant in production, the team is now focused on generating high purity on specification technical grade petalite to showcase Arcadia’s petalite to the largest customers in the global glass and ceramics market,” said MD Sam Hosack.

“The petalite produced in operation will be independently assayed for quality assurance. The final qualification gate we are set to pass through should deliver customer confidence that Arcadia can deliver a high quality, long life raw material source for both petalite and spodumene supply chains.”

The 2.4-million-tonne-a-year Arcadia project ill require a capital investment of $162-million, and will have a mine life of 15.5 years.
