South Africa desperately needs to get its already fragile economy going again. The extended lockdown has left many firms in a precarious position and millions of jobs are on the line. As operations ramp up, however, it cannot be business as usual. Sensible precautions will have to be taken to ensure that the Covid-19 infection rate does not surge uncontrollably. It’s going to be a difficult dance, but with goodwill and effort the twin aims of keeping infections down and business up might just be possible.
