NUM, AMCU to march to JSE in Sibanye wage dispute
Trade unions the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) plan to hold a mass march to the JSE on April 22 to hand over a memorandum of demand in its ongoing wage dispute with precious metals miner Sibanye-Stillwater.
Sibanye in February tabled its offer of an R800 (R700 basic and R100 living out allowance) increase a year, for three years, for category four to eight underground workers at its South African gold operations, while miners, artisans and officials would receive a 5%-a-year increase for three years.
The NUM and AMCU are demanding a R1 000 increase for surface and underground workers and a 6% increase for artisans, miners and officials.
NUM- and AMCU-affiliated workers at Sibanye’s South African gold operations are currently on a protected strike after having declared a dispute at the Council for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration.
Trade unions Solidarity and Uasa have accepted Sibanye’s offer.
