Working-at-height-safety company HeightSafety Gear launched its Safe Point anchor point system for fall-arrest, rope access and rope rescue applications at the 2014 Occupational Safety and Health Expo Africa, held in Midrand earlier this month.

HeightSafety exhibited its range of vertical, horizontal and single-point anchor point systems, including the new Safe Point, which HeightSafety Group MD Johan du Toit says is South African Bureau of Standards approved.

The Safe Point system, from the HeightSafety-Line range, is a permanent anchor point that does not only allow for a fast, safe and easy anchoring point but also assists in absorbing the energy in the event of a worker falling.

The HeightSafetyLine systems guarantee a permanent anchor line to which the user can connect with a fall-arrest system and does not have to disconnect at any point. The nonremovable shuttle will slide past all intermediate anchor points on the system and enables hassle-free movement.

The Safe Point is manufactured from 316-grade stainless steel that is 6 m thick. It is also weatherproof and designed to with-stand the harshest environmental conditions.

“The shock absorber will keep the forces generated during the fall below 6 kN and, once fully deployed, the failure point of the material is 50 kN. The patented anchor system design allows for simple attachment to most types of structures,” Du Toit reveals.

Safe Point has no moving parts or components that can easily be misplaced or that require additional maintenance.

Following the launch of Safe Point, HeightSafety hopes to gain support from local companies and register substantial growth. Client Height Safety Du Toit emphasises that the company was trying to standardise the workplace through the provision of complete working at height safety for clients. Other systems from the HeightSafetyLine range showcased at the expo included the Safe Climb, the Safe Walk and Safe Roof. These vertical and horizontal systems were designed for cat ladder, open walkway and roof-type working situations, where the posibility of a fall exists.
