Minerals Council South Africa president Mxolisi Mgojo (centre) is flanked by CEO Roger Baxter (left) and VP Neil Froneman (right). In the background is the logo of the new council, which replaces the Chamber of Mines of South Africa as a signifier of future growth and prosperity for the South African mining industry. Mining last year contributed R304-billion to South Africa’s gross domestic product (GDP), representing 7.3% of overall GDP. All mining and also exploration companies are represented by the council, which has pledged to redouble its efforts to engage on issues “as honestly, practically and as pre-emptively as possible” as it introduces “the new brand, vision and positioning of the organisation”.
