Malawi’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is inviting expressions of interest from eligible consulting firms keen on providing consultancy services for the construction of infrastructure at seven of the country’s government-run colleges.

The consultancy will be financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) as part of the Support to Higher Learning, Science and Technology Project.

The consultancy services will involve the production of detailed construction designs, the supervision and management of construction works for information and communication technology centres, libraries and e-libraries, workshops, classrooms, laboratories, offices, open and distance learning centres, business centres, water and sanitation facilities, besides others.

The Ministry says the preferred consulting firm will also assist in the procurement of goods and services required for the construction of the facilities at the seven beneficiary institutions.

It says interested consulting firms must provide information indicating that they are qualified to indicating the services, such as brochures, descriptions of similar assignments, proof of experience in undertaking similar assignments and proof of the availability of appropriate staff and equipment.

Says the Ministry: “Consultants may constitute joint ventures to enhance their chances of qualification. In particular, interested consulting firms, joint ventures and consortia [must] clearly demonstrate the existence of architects, quantity sur- veyors, structural engineers, mechanical and electrical services engineers, and clerks of works among their personnel.”

The deadline for the submission of expressions of interest is July 22.

The seven beneficiary institutions are Mzuzu University; Salima, Lilongwe, Soche and Nansawa technical colleges, Malawi Polytechnic and Chancellor College.
