The fire that broke out underground in the Zinkgruvan mine, in Sweden, has not resulted in any material damage and operations in the unaffected areas of the copper and zinc mine have resumed.

Surface operations are also continuing and scheduled maintenance of the concentrating facilities are proceeding well, Canada-based Lundin Mining reported on Tuesday.

The miner noted that while the investigation to determine the precise cause was ongoing, the source was the contractor haulage truck which was on fire around the 1 140 m level of the mine.

“Our priority is the welfare of our employees and contractors. We are grateful for the decisive actions of our employees, contractors, on site emergency responders and local fire department who followed emergency protocols ensuring all personnel were evacuated from the mine with no reported injuries.”

Zinkgruvan is forecast to produce 77 000 t to 82 000 t of zinc and 3 000 t to 4 000 t of copper this year.
