Canada-based Lundin Mining has reported a fatal incident at its Neves-Corvo zinc mine, in Portugal.

The event occurred when an employee operating equipment underground was involved in a fall-of-ground incident on Monday.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Our sincere thoughts and support are with our colleague's family and coworkers during this difficult time,” said Lundin Mining president and CEO Jack Lundin.

Lundin has notified the appropriate authorities in Portugal and has suspended operations at Neves-Corvo.
