PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Lithium Power International has reported a 90% increase in the measured and indicated resource of its Maricunga Stage 1 lithium brine project, in Chile.

The Stage 1 operation is now estimated to host some 1.9-million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent, at an average grade of 953 mg/l lithium.

“We are very pleased with these updated results, which confirm Maricunga as one of the world’s richest lithium brine deposits. Technical activities continue towards the completion of an updated definitive feasibility study in the fourth quarter 2021,” said Lithium Power CEO Cristobal Garcia-Huidobro.

“The financing for Stage 1 is now a priority, with preliminary indications of interest received from international financial institutions and private funds for debt and equity financing of the project.”

Lithium Power on Wednesday said that an exploration target of between 1.2-million and 2.1-million tonnes had also been defined for resource expansion below the Old Code concession, with Maricunga resource remaining open at depth.
