K’Enyuka, a broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) company, is one of the country’s fastest-growing focused hydropyrometallurgical and mineral processing engineering and project management companies, and for good reason.

Established in 2006, the company prides itself on its operational flexibility and the ability to adapt to meet specific client project needs. Capable of using its own resources to deliver on a wide range of projects, K’Enyuka also has access to associates operating in related disciplines and fields with which it can form joint ventures and partnerships to deliver specialised requirements.

Using its project management skills and expertise, K’Enyuka delivers projects and solutions in a comprehensive and cohesive manner, with its contracting base able to be tailored to suit industry demands. Options include engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM), EPC and full turnkey projects.

K’Enyuka CEO Mike Symonds says that essentially, the organisation’s main resource is the major intellectual property represented by its highly qualified people, and this is across a wide spectrum of disciplines, including process, mechanical, civil and structural engineers.

K’Enyuka’s areas of expertise cover metallurgical engineering in the hydro-pyrometallurgical and mineral processing fields; chemical engineering in paper and pulp; mechanical engineering in the mechanical, piping and materials hand- ling sectors; civil engineering; structural engineering and project management including conceptual studies, pre- feasibility studies and feasibility studies, project implementation, construction management and commissioning. Planning and scheduling are also part of the company’ service offering.

“The company has a strong project services capability, and this is considered critical, because what often makes or breaks a project is the appropriate management thereof,” Symonds says.

It is K’Enyuka’s strategy to look beyond the current boom in the local mining industry and business development director Colin Tshivhase explains that this is considered important for the company’s overall strategy to be sustainable.

Interestingly, during its first year of operation, K’Enyuka established itself as a credible player in the local mining industry with its particular strengths lying in platinum, gold, uranium, coal, copper and heavy minerals.

Sustainability remains a major focus for K’Enyuka which has a “No Harm” policy that ensures a high level of commitment to best practice safety procedures and environmental responsibility. Further, K’Enyuka is committed to the BBBEE policies currently being implemented in South Africa and is rated as a Level 3 contributor in terms of Department of Trade and Industry TI Codes of Good Practice.
