Name: Julcani mine.

Location: The project is located in the region of Huancavelica, Peru.

Controlling Company: Buenaventura.

Brief Description: Julcani is an underground mine with silver in narrow veins.

Brief History: Buenaventura started operations at Julcani in 1953, with several areas of exploitation during its history. Operations are currently under way at Acchilla and Estela, where there are eight levels, with the highest being 420 and the lowest being 710. The shafts are located in Acchilla.

Products: Gold and silver.

Geology/Mineralisation: Julcani is a fracture-filling silver-bearing epithermal deposit with silver/lead/bismuth/copper/tungsten mineralisation, hosted in a complex of dacitic/rhyolitic domes from the Tertiary. The most important system of structures runs north-west to south-east, with the other structures trending east to west and north-east to south-west.

The central part of the deposit – the Tentadora dome – exhibits a gold/bismuth/tungsten aggregate that changes to silver/lead toward the edges. Historically, the most important mines have been Herminia, Nueva Herminia, Mimosa and Manto. The Acchilla and Estela mines are currently in operation. The minerals present include tetrahedrite, argentite, silver sulphosalts, galena, sphalerite and chalcopyrite, with gangues of siderite, pyrite, barite, silica and calcite.

Reserves: Total proven and probable reserves as at December 31, 2017, were estimated at 270-million tonnes grading 0.01 oz/TMS gold, 19.93 oz/TMS, 2.13% lead and 0.47% copper.

Mining Method: Overhand cut-and-fill.

Major Infrastructure and Equipment: The waste is recirculated to the pits, and the excess material is transported to the barren material deposits on the surface. Mine water drainage is performed using pumping stations located near shafts 487 and 993, with maximum flow volumes of 120 ℓ/s. There is an acid water treatment plant at Acchilla, with a capacity of 180 ℓ/s.

At Julcani, the ore enters through hoppers and is sent to the washing mill, the crusher, and then to the bar and ball mills. The process continues in the flotation cells, thickener, and press filter. Finally, a bulk concentrate is obtained, while ore with low metal content is disposed of in the Acchila tailings pond.

Prospects: None stated.
