PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Operations at the Curragh coal mine, in Queensland, have been temporarily suspended following a fatality at the mine site.

ASX-listed Coronado Global Resources on Monday reported the fatality involving one of its employees, noting that it was working with the appropriate authorities to secure the site and understand the cause of the incident.

“Coronado extends its deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the individual,” the company said in a statement.

A full investigation is being conducted into the accident and Coronado is working with the Queensland Police, the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and other authorities.

Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) CEO Tania Constable has expressed condolences on behalf of the MCA.

“The Australian minerals industry’s highest value and priority is the safety and health of its workforce, where everyone who goes to work returns home safe and healthy.

“The minerals industry is working hard to eliminate fatalities, injuries and occupational illnesses,” she said.
