Malawi utility seeks automatic fire suppression solution
The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) is inviting expressions of interest from eligible firms for the supply and installation of automatic fire suppression systems in the cable tunnels at its Nkula B and Tedzani power stations, on the Shire river.
Escom will require the wining bidder to design, manufacture, install and commission three automatic fire suppression systems: one for Nkula B and one each for for Tedzani 1 and 2.
“The contractor will be required to arrange for factory inspections of materials and equipment at manufacturers’ premises prior to delivery, provide all the required training and licences for software for equipment supplied under the contract and arrange for the required licences and after-sales support for a minimum of two years from date of handover of equipment.
“The contractor will also have to visit Nkula A and Tedzani 1 and 2 at its own expense prior to bidding to . . . get acquainted with the cable tunnels,” says Escom.
Bidders must provide proof of involvement in five similar projects in the last three years and a listing of staff to be committed to the project, stating their qualifications and experience.
“Contractors may associate with other firms in the form of a joint venture or subconsultancy to enhance their qualification chances,” says Escom.
The power utility has an installed generation capacity of 351.3 MW, and generates over 98% of its power from the Shire river, whose power stations include NKula A and B, Tedzani 1, 2 and 3, and Kapichira 1 and 2.
The rest of its power is generated from a mini hydropower station on the Wovwe river.
