The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) has invited public comment on the planned 12-month extension of the transitional arrangements contained in the Financial Provisioning Regulations for mining rightholders, who obtained their rights before November 20, 2015.

The regulations regulate the manner in which holders and applicants of various types of mining rights and permits must provide funds for the rehabilitation and remediation of environmental damage caused from mining activities at closure and post closure.

The deadline for comments is May 22.
