South Africans are dealing with many burdens currently: rising food and fuel prices; load-shedding; finding ways to recover from Covid disruptions professionally and personally; and a toxic political climate. Adding to these worries is the rising threat of violent crime, as reflected in the quarterly crime statistics, which showed a 22.2% rise in murder during the first three months of 2022, as well as 10 818 reported rape cases.
