Victorian exploration to benefit from new toolkit
PERTH (miningweekly.com) - The Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (Amec) has launched a ‘toolkit’ to support Victorian mineral explorers and land owner/occupiers to negotiate access for exploration.
The Amec Victoria Land Access Toolkit includes a practical guide for industry, a streamlined access and compensation agreement template, fact sheets, and a video explaining exploration techniques and methods.
The toolkit was initiated and developed by Amec in response to calls from industry for clear, up-to-date documentation.
“The Amec Victoria Land Access Toolkit provides the support to ensure that exploration companies and landowners get off on the right foot at the beginning of a project,” said Amec CEO Warren Pearce.
“With the many land users and activities in Victoria, it is important for our industry to prioritise effective and regular community engagement with land owner/occupiers and build good working relationships between explorers and community.
“Most exploration is short term and low impact, and these documents help to explain the methods to land owner/occupiers to assist them when negotiating access arrangements. The launch of the toolkit today reinforces the importance the minerals industry places on land access and Amec’s investment in this important process,” said Pearce.
The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) earlier this week reported that exploration in Victoria had reached record numbers, with A$220.4-million spent In 2021 on minerals exploration in Victoria, an increase of 44% on 2020.
“Victoria’s minerals industry is playing a growing role in regional development. Record exploration is building a pipeline of prospects in gold, base metals, including copper, mineral sands and rare earths,” said MCA CEO Tania Constable.
“Early stage mineral exploration for lithium is also occurring. Exploration projects across the state are building a greater understanding of Victoria’s geology and resource endowment leading to potential new minerals discoveries.
“Exploration spending is also critical to diversify Victoria’s economy and create high-paying jobs in regional areas,” she added.
