Project Description
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources is assessing an integrated project that will produce titanium by using ilmenite, which is locally available in the Qahma region and in the coastal area of the southern region.
The project includes a plant to produce 500 000 t/y of titanium ore and 235-million tons a year of cast iron, another plant to produce 120-million tons a year of titanium dioxide and a third plant to produce 20-million tons a year of titanium powder. In addition, a specialised plant will produce 50-million tons a year of high-tech final and semifinal titanium products used in desalination applications, in the oil, gas and chemicals industries and in aircraft parts, organ transplants and many other industries.
The project will also feature a plant to produce white pigments used as additives in the plastics industry and another to produce zirconium oxychloride used in manufacturing of zirconium compounds and catalysts.
