As deposits become depleted, profits are squeezed between increasingly greater costs in extraction, coupled with smaller margins at the other end. It therefore remains imperative that our mining industry take all possible steps in improving production and the streamlining the day to day running of mines. A firm grasp on all aspects of a mine’s operations, are a crucial first step in making overall improvements.

To this end, technology and innovation play a big part in keeping mines competitive.

With this situation in mind, MineWare aims to apply the latest technological innovation in providing systems that are both application specific and easy to use. To this end they are in the process of releasing new Syncromine software. Syncromine is the culmination of an industry wide need to increase the analytical power of current software products. There is little doubt that technology is an essential component of any initiative to improve safety and operational effectiveness, and to influence the bottom line.

Syncromine provides information coupling between various sources of information found on a mine including Production HR,costing, ordering, geological analysis, stores, time and attendance, production, planning, equipment control, efficiencies etc. etc. The system allows multiple reports to be compared on one central screen. This includes information drawn not only from different systems but also from different operations, at the touch of a button. The value of having information on one interface cannot be overstated.

Graphical 2 D and 3D views of the ore body and workplaces are available through the fully open spatial database. All and any spatially related detail can be analysed and viewed including but not limited to grade distribution, leads and lags, production shortfall, accident hot spots, efficiency contours and much much more. A special “boardroom function” allows management to review all necessary reports from across the group on a central projector screen. Data is manipulated and driven through hand movements, providing free access without the restrictions of a keyboard.

South Africa’s current political and economic position places the mining industry in an uncomfortable situation, one in a margin squeeze, the other in a price upswing. Nevertheless, this does not negate the need for action, and the need to successfully implement new methods and technologies in order for the South African mining industry to remain globally competitive.

Syncromine is the next step in the evolution of information access, allowing ease of use and sophisticated access to relevant information. Its ability to draw together and streamline information into one interface, will significantly impact the production of any mine in which it is implemented. We believe that this is the future of mining.
