Dual-listed Tharisa has advised that one of its employees Legohu Raymond Mothapo lost his life on October 21.

This follows after the mechanic, who had worked at the Tharisa Minerals mining operation for over 11 years, was injured in a serious accident in the openpit on the evening of October 18.

After managing to stabilise him, he was airlifted to hospital and underwent several surgeries in an effort to save his life. Despite efforts by colleagues, medical personnel on site and in the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, the company says.

“The Tharisa family extends their deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased. Tharisa has and will continue to provide all necessary support to the family of the employee,” the company states.

It says that all relevant authorities have been notified since the accident and investigations are continuing.
