Degrémont, a subsidiary of SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT, has been awarded a new contract to design and build a drinking water production plant to address the needs of the new city of Karshi on the outskirts of Abuja, Nigeria’s administrative capital city.

This new contract reinforces SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT’s presence in Africa, a strategic market for the Group. The contract follows on from others won in Nigeria, with the civil engineering company SCC, for similar plants at Owena in 2007 and Kashimbila in 2011.

Under this €5.7 million contract, Degrémont will provide engineering and equipment services and support the installation and start-up of the plant, in close collaboration with SCC. The untreated water for processing will be drawn from a reservoir situated upstream of a dam close to the city. The Karshi plant, which will take 24 months to complete, will produce 60,000 m3/day and will be equipped with two Pulsator® clarifiers1, six Aquazur V® filters2 and pumping stations.

“We are proud to have been awarded this new contract on this continent which is in the process of tremendous change and where infrastructural needs are becoming increasingly important. This new asset strengthens our position in Africa in general and more specifically in Nigeria, demonstrating our ability to offer solutions which are quick, efficient and sustainable.” explains Rémi Lantier, Chief Executive Officer of Degrémont.
