The municipality of Red Lake, in Ontario, has declared a state of emergency following a severe storm on Friday.

Extreme wind conditions had damaged municipal infrastructure and resulted in a loss of hydro electricity, Mayor Fred Mota said on Saturday, announcing the state of emergency.

Winds of more than 120 km/h were reported.

Exploration company Red Lake Gold said on Saturday that it had temporarily suspended field operations and that it would work to restore activity as soon as conditions were safe.

The company deployed its teams for inaugural exploration at its Whirlwind Jack project last week.

Chairperson and CEO Ryan Kalt confirmed in a statement that all personal deployed in the area were safe and accounted for.

The Whirlwind Jack gold project is adjacent to the Dixie gold project being advanced by Great Bear Resources.
