Project Description
The project involves the proposed expansion of the Springvale coal mine’s longwall mining operations further south, east and south-east.

The project will extract coal from 20 longwalls – LW416 to 432 and LW501 to 503 – and continued operations at the mine’s surface infrastructure site.

The main components of the project include:
• continued longwall mining operations to extract up to 4.5-million tonnes a year of run-of-mine (RoM) coal from the Lithgow seam over 13 years;
• continued operation of the mine’s top pit area, support facilities and utilities;
• the extension and continued use of the Springvale Delta water scheme, bore dewatering facilities and ventilation infrastructure;
• continued processing (sizing and screening) of RoM coal at the pit top area;
• continued stockpiling of RoM coal at 85 000 t capacity;
• continued exploration activities in EL6974 and A460;
• continued transportation of processed coal by overland conveyor to the Western Coal Services site for further processing or to the Mt Piper power station; and/or by road haulage to other local domestic customers (limited to 50 000 t/y); and
• the rehabilitation of the pit top area and Newnes plateau sites.
