JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aquarius Platinum has appointed chartered accountant Sir Nigel Rudd as chairperson designate, with effect from November 1.

Nicholas Sibley, who had been a director since 1999 and chairperson since 2002, would be stepping down on February 28 next year, after which Rudd would become chairperson on March 1.

Rudd previously held various senior management and board positions and had been involved with South African companies for over 25 years.

He had previously held the positions of nonexecutive director of paper group Sappi, nonexecutive director of banking group Barclays, chairperson of glass manufacturer Pilkington, chairperson of pharmacy chain Boots and chairperson of motor racing team Williams.

He is currently the chairperson of airport operator Heathrow Airport Holdings, aviation support group BBA Aviation and capital provider the Business Growth Fund.

Rudd was knighted for services to the manufacturing industry in 1996.

Commenting on the appointment, outgoing chairperson Sibley said it was “time for me to step down”.

“I am delighted that Nigel has accepted the invitation to join the board. I can think of no better person to take my place as chairperson. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in a range of business, particularly in Southern Africa, and I am sure that he will make a great contribution to the ongoing growth and success of the company,” he noted.
