Regis gets DPE backing for McPhillamys
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Regis Resources is a step closer to the development of its McPhillamys gold project, in New South Wales, after the state’s Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) approved the project with conditions.
The DPE has now referred the project to the Independent Planning Commission (IPC) for final determination.
“The DPE’s referral to the IPC is a significant and crucial step forward in the approval process for Regis to realise its production ambitions at the McPhillamys project,” said MD Jim Beyer on Thursday.
“It is pleasing the DPE has recognised the substantial investigation and study work into the impacts of the project and the positive contribution McPhillamys will have for Blayney and nearby communities in central western New South Wales.
“The timing for an IPC determination is something that we can’t directly control, however, we would be very pleased to see final NSW planning approval in the coming months,” he added.
“McPhillamys is one of Australia’s largest undeveloped open-pittable gold resources with more than a ten-year mine life and a two-million-ounce reserve that underpins significant value potential for Regis.”
The proposed opencut operation will have a throughput rate of seven-million tonnes a year and an estimated mine life of between 10 and 15 years, based on a mineral resource estimate of 2.3-million ounces and an ore reserve of 2-million ounces. The project is expected to produce up to 200 000 oz/y of gold.
