The Railway Safety Regulator has dispatched inspectors to the scene of an accident where two high school learners were run over by a train on Tuesday, 04 March 2014. The accident occurred in the East Rand at the Dunswaart Station at about 08H35.

It appears that upon disembarking a train at the Dunswaart Station, the two learners crossed the railway tracks, where a Metrorail train was approaching from the opposite direction.  The leaners, aged between 15 and 16, were struck by the Metrorail train.  RSR is conducting an investigation into the accident.
Two fatalities have been confirmed.  The families of the learners have not yet been informed.  However, the school the learners attended has been informed.  The Railway Safety Regulator extends its heartfelt condolences to the affected families.  RSR appeals to the public and train commuters to be vigilant at all times and to remember to make use of designated level crossings and road-over-rail bridges.
