PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior oil and gas explorer Po Valley has expanded its tenement holding in Italy after being awarded a new exploration licence, dubbed Tozzona.

The 90 km2 tenement area is located in Emilia-Romagna, in the provinces of Bologna and Ravenna. The Tozzona exploration permit is valid for an initial six-year term.

“Tozzona represents another prospective addition to the company’s exploration portfolio. Now that we have secured the licence, we will start geological and geophysical studies aimed at evaluating already identified opportunities in similar settings to the Santerno gas field,” said Po Valley MD Giovanni Catalano.

The Tozzona area lies along the eastern border of the existing gas production licence held by producer ENI, containing the Santerno gas field. The main gas targets include the Mio-Pliocene reservoirs within structural traps.

Catalano noted that the initial work programme for Tozzona would include the purchase of a semi-regional grid of two-dimensional seismic lines from ENI, who is the former operator of the area.
